Sonoran Hot Dogs

If you like hot dogs, you have to give these Sonoran Hot Dogs a try. Believed to have originated with street vendors in Sonora, Mexico, they are very popular in southern Arizona and will no doubt be right up there with the chili dog one day.

The wiener in a Sonoran dog is bacon-wrapped and nestled into a steamed Mexican roll (which is WON-DER-FUL) and topped with pinto beans, chopped tomatoes, onions, jalapeno sauce, cheese, mayonnaise, ketchup and mustard. Usually, they have a roasted chili on the side and maybe even some roasted green onions. Don’t be turned off by the idea of mayo on the hot dog. Try it.

Get your Sonoran Dog at a hot dog cart or restaurant just about anywhere in Tucson. Or, follow the advice of Travel Channel’s Adam Richman and try those at El Guero Canelo, located on the east side of North Oracle Rd, north of Grant Road. If you live in the Phoenix metro area, you’re in luck. Grab your Sonoran Dog at Nogales Hot Dogs.
