Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix, Arizona.

The Desert Botanical Garden features one of the world's finest collections of desert plants, with more than 50,000 plant displays in outdoor exhibits, including more than 100 rare, threatened, and endangered species.

The plants include succulents, yucca, herbs, cacti, and, in season, wildflowers and butterflies. The plans can be explored through five walking trails on the garden's 145 acres that also offer scenic views of the red buttes of Papago Park . Docent-led guided tours are offered daily from October through April.

The garden opens at night in December for Las Noches de las Luminarias, with more than 8,000 hand-lit luminaria bags lighting the trails. It also features food and drink booths and performers ranging from handbell ringers to Dickens carolers to folk and country performers.
