The Arizona Biltmore was one of Phoenix’s first resorts when it opened in 1929, and the buildings show the influence of consulting architect Frank Lloyd Wright in the use of pre-cast concrete blocks that bear a geometric pattern resembling palm trees.
The Biltmore's architect of record was Albert Chase McArthur, who was Harvard-educated and Wright-trained and developed the hotel with his brothers, Charles and Warren. It has had many owners since then and is owned today by Morgan Stanley.
The hotel, known today as the Arizona Biltmore Resort & Spa, has drawn U.S. presidents and celebrities as well as other travelers. The songwriter Irving Berlin reportedly composed "White Christmas" while sitting poolside, and honeymooners at the resort have included Ronald and Nancy Reagan and Clark Gable and Carole Lombard. The tequila sunrise was created by a bartender at the hotel in 1940.
The hotel has 739 guest accommodations ranging from rooms to suites, plus eight pools, two 18-hole golf courses, seven tennis courts, four restaurants, and a spa and fitness center.
